The Railways Department has started the construction of a foot overbridge at the Amb-Andaura railway station here. Currently, passengers have to board a train or disembark from trains arriving at the second platform. They have to cross three rail lines on foot along with luggage, climbing and jumping down platforms.
The issue was brought to the notice of MP Anurag Thakur nearly two years ago and he took up the matter with the authorities.
A sum of Rs 80 lakh had been sanctioned for the foot overbridge that would connect platform number 1 with platform number 2, said station supervisor RK Sinha. Three passenger trains, besides Jaipur Intercity Express, Nanded Sahib Express, Himachal Express and Janshatabdi run on this line.
Sinha said Rs 13 crore was being spent at the railway station for the construction of a traction distribution (TrD) store. Currently, the electrification maintenance of the track, which had now extended up to Daulatpur Chowk, was being done from the TrD office at Ropar railway station in Punjab, making it difficult to repair faults in time.
Electrical wing staff and equipment would be available at the Amb-Andaura station for quick maintenance of electrical faults, added Sinha.
