Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal today attended the Ashok Dhamma Vijayadashami and Dhammachakra Parivartan Diwas programme at Sultanpur in Chamba. The event was organised under the aegis of Vidya Mahesh Charitable Trust and in collaboration with the Scheduled Caste Welfare Association, Chamba.
On the occasion, the DC unveiled a statue of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Addressing the gathering during the Dhamma symposium, Repaswal said that Dr Ambedkar, through the Constitution, upheld the values of equality, justice and fraternity in Indian society. He envisioned a nation free from caste-based discrimination where every citizen enjoys equal opportunities for education, dignity and progress.
Highlighting the need to improve literacy rate among the Scheduled Caste population in the district, the DC urged social organisations to actively participate in spreading education. He emphasised that education is the most powerful tool to eradicate social evils and promote harmony. Repaswal also appealed to residents of Chamba to draw inspiration from Dr Ambedkar’s life and work for building an equitable society.
Earlier, the DC inaugurated the symposium by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Joint Director of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College, Keshav Ram, spoke on the importance of technical education.
