Mandi, August 27
Keeping in view the severe transportation crisis faced by the flood-stricken Malana village in Kullu district, the state government has decided to installation two additional ropeways to provide temporary transportation facilities. This decision comes in the wake of a devastating cloudburst on July 31 that wreaked havoc on the area of the Malana power project and a crucial road linking the village.
The cloudburst led to extensive damage to both road infrastructure and the project, exacerbating the hardships faced by residents of the village. The destruction has disrupted food and essential commodity supplies, leading to prices skyrocketing due to higher costs of carriage from the nearest road access point. The situation has become dire, with residents, particularly expectant mothers and patients, struggling to have access to the necessary medical aid.
Sunder Singh Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Kullu Sadar MLA, addressed the ongoing crisis, stating, “We have decided to set up two ropeways in the region to ensure the easy transportation of products to the village. The high cost of carriage has indeed caused essential commodity prices to rise sharply. We are hopeful that within the next 20 days, these ropeways will be operational, providing a temporary but crucial transportation link to the villagers.”
The district administration of Kullu has also asked the authorities of the Malana power project to accelerate construction efforts towards Malana village. This move aims to restore a permanent road connection as soon as possible, which will be vital for the long-term recovery of the area.
The installation of the ropeways is expected to alleviate some immediate challenges faced by the residents by enabling more efficient and cost-effective transportation of goods and medical supplies. In the meantime, the state government and local authorities are working in tandem to address the urgent needs of the affected population and rebuild the damaged infrastructure.
