In line with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) on Wednesday observed Anti-Ragging Day. Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Singh inaugurated the anti-ragging campaign at the campus.
Dean of Student Welfare Prof Mamta Mokta said Anti-Ragging Week will be observed at HPU from August 12 to 18. “During this week, various awareness activities will be organised across all departments to spread the message that ragging is strictly prohibited at the university and to ensure a harmonious, friendly environment for all students,” she said.
As part of the inaugural activities, a pledge-taking ceremony was organised, where students from both undergraduate and postgraduate programs participated with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility. Dr Deepika Gautam, Additional Deputy Student Welfare (Women), administered the anti-ragging pledge, reaffirming the university community’s collective resolve to eliminate ragging in all its forms.
Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Priti Saxena reiterated the university’s strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and other statutory bodies concerning anti-ragging measures. She underscored the importance of fostering an environment where students can grow academically and personally without fear or discrimination.
“HPNLU Shimla remains committed to creating a campus culture rooted in dignity, equality and justice,” she said. “We will continue to take proactive steps in raising awareness, enforcing regulations and building community solidarity against ragging.”
