Following the High Court quashing the appointment process for the Vice Chancellor of Agricultural University, Palampur, the state Youth Congress today alleged that the appointment of Rajeshwar Singh Chandel as the Vice Chancellor of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, was illegal and unconstitutional and he should resign on moral grounds.

“The High Court quashed the selection process for the VC of agriculture varsity as it violated the University Act, which mandates the inclusion of the Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in the selection committee. Chandel was appointed VC on May 6, 2022, in violation of the same Act,” said state Youth Congress president Chhatter Singh and general secretary Ranjeet Singh Verma. “As the appointment provisions in the Acts of both universities are identical, Chandel’s appointment is illegal,” the youth leaders said.

Verma further said that Chandel’s tenure was set to end on May 8, but the process for appointing a new Vice-Chancellor had not been initiated. He called for the Vice-Chancellor position to be advertised and the appointment process completed in a time-bound and transparent manner. “The state government should ask Chandel to resign on moral grounds, or have him removed from the post by the Governor of Himachal Pradesh,” Verma said.
