Kangra: Covid warriors of Kangra district were felicitated by the Army Dah Division in a ceremony held at Tanda hospital on Sunday. Army Pipes and Drums Band from the Gorkha Rifles unit played patriotic tunes to express the heartfelt gratitude to the the warriors of this district. A certificate of appreciation was presented to Dr Bhanu Awasthi, principal of the hospital, as a mark of appreciation. OC
Agri varsity withdraws enhanced entrance fee
Palampur: Himachal Pradesh agriculture university has decided that the enhancement of fee for filling online application for entrance test for admission to BVSc and AH, BSc (Hons) Agriculture, MSc Agri & MVSc degree programmes and fee for submitting offline application for merit based admissions to BSc physical sciences, BSc life sciences, BTech (Food Technology), BSc (Hons) Community Science and doctoral programmes for 2020-21 will be withdrawn. Vice-Chancellor Ashok Sarial said the excess fee already deposited by students would be reimbursed. OC
Pensioners donate Rs4.22 cr
Chamba: The Himachal Pradesh Pensioners Welfare Association (HPPWA) has donated one-day pension amounting to Rs 4,21,90,448 towards the HP SDMA Covid-19 State Disaster Response Fund and PM-CARES Fund created for combating coronavirus outbreak. Association chief spokesperson PC Oberoi said the decision of 1.50 lakh pensioners was earlier conveyed to the government and they had authorised the state government to deduct one-day pension of all pensioners. 30,000 appear for online assessment exams
Solan: Akal Academies conducted its terminal exams for their assessment in which around 30,000 students appeared. Online classes had been conducted since March 22. Mock tests were also being held for the students. A press note issued here on Saturday said the academic delivery should be continued unhindered and this step was one of the largest-ever exercise to facilitate continuous teaching. TNS
Truckers seek waiver in taxes
Solan: The All-Himachal Truck Operators’ Federation has demanded waiver in token tax and goods tax for the first two quarters. The federation said transportation work in Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh, Kala Amb, Paonta Sahib, Darlaghat and Mehatpur had been adversely affected. Federation president Naresh Gupta said the tax paid by the truckers from April to September should be adjusted in the next quarter from October onwards as truckers were facing several hardships. TNS
Covid testing lab at Nahan soon
Solan: In a bid to facilitate testing of Covid-19 patients in the district, a testing lab will be set up in Dr YS Parmar Government Medical College at Nahan at a cost of Rs 1.18 crore. Sirmaur DC said the financial sanction had been accorded and it would help in testing and screening of patients. The proposed lab would be set up in the basement and ground floor of the ayurvedic hospital, which is part of the medical college at Nahan. TNS
