Army swings to glory: ARTRAC shines in spirited Army-civil golf faceoff

The Army team from HQ ARTRAC clinched an emphatic 8-2 victory over the local side in the Army-Civil Golf Tournament held at the picturesque Annandale Ground on December 6-7. Played in the traditional match-play format, the annual event once again fulfilled its aim of promoting camaraderie, sportsmanship and enduring bonhomie between the Army and civilian golfers.

The tournament featured keenly contested matches across all pairings, with both teams showcasing impressive skill, strategic play and exemplary on-course conduct. The Army team displayed remarkable consistency from the start, steadily increasing its lead through disciplined shot-making and composed play under pressure. The civil team fought valiantly, pushing several matches to tight finishes, but the Army golfers ultimately prevailed with commanding performances.

Individual achievements added further excitement to the event. Girish Minocha won the ‘Straightest Drive’ award with a remarkable accuracy of 4.1 metres. Arjun Lall Sud captured the ‘Nearest to the Pin’ prize by landing his approach just 1.9 metres from the hole. Demonstrating sheer power, Rehmat Singh claimed the ‘Longest Drive’ trophy with a towering 319-metre strike that drew admiration from players and spectators alike.

The tournament concluded with an award ceremony where prizes were presented by the Patron of the Annandale Golf Course, Lt Gen Devendra Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Army Training Command. He congratulated the winners and appreciated all participants for upholding the true spirit of the game. Highlighting the importance of such events, he noted that sports continue to serve as a strong bridge of friendship, mutual respect and cooperation between the Army and the local community.
