Arrest ABVP activists involved in violence at HP varsity: SFI
The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has condemned the recent act of voilence at the Himachal Pradesh University. The SFI sought arrest of all Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists. Members of the SFI said a case under Section 109 of the BNS along with other relevant sections should be registered against the ABVP activists.
Dinit Denta, State Secretray, SFI, said on March 11, around 40 to 50 activist of the ABVP, BJP and RSS attacked five students, including the SFI campus president, with sharp-edged weapons inside the university campus. “Six students sustained severe injuries and one student is still undergoing treatment at the IGMC,” he said.
“The attack tool place as teachers and students have been continuously protesting for their basic rights. The university’s financial condition is in dire straits and the administration under the guise of resource mobilisation is cutting down on basic facilities for students,” he said.
“Temporary appointments are being made, and there is strong opposition from teachers, non-teaching staff and students regarding outsourced recruitment. The SFI has been actively demanding an investigation into the illegal appointments of professors which were made in the year 2019-20, in which the BJP and the RSS affiliates were illegally hired,” he said. “The growing participation of students highlights the frustration and aggression of the ABVP, who resorted to a deadly attack in response.
There are numerous instances where the ABVP has sabotaged the academic environment in educational institutions, including Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University, ” said Denta.
He accused the present government of failing to prevent communalism of education by RSS. “While the national Congress leadership talks about fighting RSS, the state Congress seems to be surrendering to them, exposing the party’s double standards” he added.
