Art & soul: Students’ creations bring Sobha Singh gallery to life

The two-day art and cultural extravaganza “Symphony of Expressions” concluded on Sunday at the Sobha Singh Art Gallery, Art village, Andretta, amid vibrant artistic displays and heartfelt tributes to the legendary painter.

Dr Gurpal Singh Rana, Principal of YS College, Barnala, announced that a special slideshow on the birth anniversary of eminent artist Sobha Singh will be shown to students on November 29. He also shared that an annual visit to the Sobha Singh Art Gallery will henceforth be organised for students and staff, calling the experience “deeply inspiring and enriching”.

During the event, the staff and students of YS College transformed the boundary walls of the gallery with imaginative artwork. A wall mural by artist Kulwant Singh, titled “Art is the Language of Heart and Soul,” earned wide acclaim. Students also created vivid landscapes of the Dhauladhar ranges and the art gallery, besides engaging in clay modelling and craftwork.

Dr Hirday Paul Singh, secretary general of the Sobha Singh Memorial Art Society, said the new wall art would serve as attractive selfie points for the thousands of visitors and tourists who visit the gallery and museum every year. He expressed gratitude to YS College for their voluntary contribution to honouring the saint-artist’s legacy.

He added that followers of Sobha Singh will organise more art events later this month in Bathinda, Ludhiana and Shri Hargobindpur (Gurdaspur district) to mark his birth anniversary.

Bibi Gurcharan Kaur, daughter of the late artist, presented original prints of her father’s famous paintings to the participating students and ‘Grow More Good’ T-shirts to the college staff. The concluding ceremony drew art lovers, students and tourists, celebrating creativity and the timeless spirit of Sobha Singh.
