Assembly at Tapovan open to public
In a major step towards boosting tourism and civic participation, the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha complex at Tapovan has been opened to the public. Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania launched the initiative during a ceremony organised by the Kangra district administration.
Set against the backdrop of the Dhauladhar ranges and near the revered Chinmaya Tapovan Ashram, the Assembly complex is an architectural and democratic landmark. “This Vidhan Bhawan is a modern symbol of democracy set in nature’s lap,” said Speaker Pathania. Visitors can now explore the gallery, admire the architecture and enjoy sweeping views of McLeodganj.
A nominal entry fee will be charged, with the funds used for maintenance. To enrich the tourist experience, a mobile food van will be stationed near the complex.
Future additions include a cultural museum, a cafeteria, and a residential complex. The museum, located within the Assembly premises, will spotlight Himachal’s rich heritage. Inaugurated in February 2006, the Tapovan Vidhan Sabha has hosted 18 winter sessions. Sprawling across 35,000 square feet, it is now being reimagined as a space where democratic values meet sustainable tourism — offering a rare blend of governance, culture, and natural beauty in the heart of Himachal.
