Assets of Malana residents frozen under NDPS Act

The police have frozen properties worth Rs 27 lakh of two residents of Malana village who were involved in the trade of charas.

Kullu SP Gaurav Singh said that Chunje Ram was arrested with 698 gram charas on July 23. He said that a financial investigation of the accused and his accomplice brother Bhagi Ram, who is president of the Malana panchayat, was carried out.

The SP said during the investigation of Chunje Ram, it was found that he did not have any permanent source of income. He said that despite that, he owned a Mahindra TUV. He said his assets were not compatible with his income so they had been frozen under Section 68 of the NDPS Act.

Gaurav said that during the investigation of Bhagi Ram, it was found that he ran a shop in the village and does not have any other source of income but still he owned a mini truck and a Mahindra TUV. He said his assets, too, were frozen. The accused had done transactions of lakhs of rupees from his bank accounts and over Rs 6 lakh balance in his bank accounts had been frozen.

The SP said the Kullu police had so far seized and frozen assets worth over Rs 2.10 crore of 15 accused in nine NDPS cases for the illegal trade of drugs.
