Automated labs will be set up in 3 medical colleges: Sukhu

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today said that the state government would bring significant improvement in all medical colleges within a year. Sukhu, while chairing a meeting of the Medical Education Department, said that reforms would ensure people get access to advanced healthcare facilities in the state itself, without having to travel to other states for treatment. He reviewed the availability of staff, equipment and machinery in all medical colleges.

Sukhu said that automated laboratories would be set up in medical colleges at Chamiyana (Shimla), Hamirpur and Chamba at a cost of Rs 25 crore each. He added that the construction of a critical care block at Chamba medical college would be completed by October and the state government would also provide Rs 100 crore for the construction of an academic block there. Hostels for senior resident doctors and the staff of the medical college at Chamba would also be built.

The Chief Minister said that nursing colleges would start functioning at Nahan, Hamirpur, Kullu and Chamba from the next academic session, to address the problem of staff shortage.

He said that the state government was installing modern medical machines and there would be no shortage of funds for strengthening health services. “The government is making serious efforts to address the shortage of doctors, paramedical and technical staff,” he added.
