An awareness camp was organised on Friday in Karpat village, located in the remote Miyar Valley of Lahaul-Spiti district, by the Department of Women and Child Development in collaboration with the District Welfare Department.
District Programme Officer Sanjay Kumar Dogra informed the attendees about various welfare schemes provided by the state government — including the Chief Minister’s Sukh Ashraya Yojana, Indira Gandhi Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana, Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojana — as well as the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act and the Untouchability Act.
He emphasised the importance of insurance schemes such as the Prime Minister’s Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Prime Minister’s Suraksha Bima Yojana and the Atal Pension Yojana, explaining how these low-premium insurance plans could benefit the community.
An interactive session was also held with area residents to identify eligible beneficiaries. This effort aims to ensure that no eligible person is left behind.
On the occasion, District Welfare Officer Khushvinder Singh Thakur highlighted the government’s goal of providing social justice through these welfare schemes, especially for the most vulnerable sections of society, including the Scheduled Caste community, backward classes, minorities, disabled individuals and the elderly.
He said these programmes aim to improve the socio-economic conditions of these groups, ensuring their inclusion in the mainstream.
The event was attended by 56 area residents, including the Mahila Mandal president and members of the gram panchayat.
