Awareness drive launched to mark 10th anniversary of Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao
An awareness drive was launched in Chamba on Wednesday to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign. The programme, which is set to run until 8th March, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal in a ceremony at the district headquarters.
Addressing the gathering at the event, DC Repaswal described the campaign as a transformative, people-driven initiative, highlighting the active participation of all sections of society. He stressed the campaign’s key role in combating gender discrimination and empowering girls.
The Deputy Commissioner also noted significant improvements in child sex ratios in blocks with historically low numbers, attributing these advances to grassroots efforts. He called for continued personal and societal change to further these gains.
The Deputy Director of the Sainik Welfare Board, Captain (Retd) Anumeha Parashar, shared her experiences and voiced her support for the campaign’s objectives. Rajni, the in-charge of the women police station in Chamba, addressed problems of domestic violence and child marriage, while Uma Devi from the Jagori organisation tackled misconceptions around menstruation, providing detailed information to debunk myths.
A rally organised by Anganwadi and ASHA workers began at Savings Bhawan, passing through the hospital and concluding at the Circuit House.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Deputy Director of Education Bhagat Singh, OSD Education Department Umakant, DSP Jitender and District Employment Officer Arvind Chauhan.
