Awareness drive on mandatory dustbins in Mandi

In accordance with a recent directive from the Himachal Pradesh Government, the installation of dustbins has been made compulsory in all public and designated private transport vehicles throughout the state. In response, the Transport Department in Mandi has initiated a district-wide awareness campaign.

As part of this initiative, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Rathour conducted an inspection at Paddal Ground, Mandi, yesterday. Vehicles from various government departments were checked, and all were found to be equipped with dustbins adhering to the specified standards.

Rathour stated that this step is aimed at reducing pollution and promoting environmental conservation. He clarified that the rule applies to all taxis, buses, private carriers, trucks, and tempo travellers operating in the state.

He further urged the office bearers of all public transport, taxi, and truck operator unions to actively raise awareness about the regulation among their members and the general public. “Achieving a pollution-free Himachal Pradesh is a shared responsibility,” he said.

Highlighting the legal consequences of non-compliance, Rathour warned that offenders could face fines ranging from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 10,000 based on the nature of the violation.

The event was also attended by Regional Transport Officer Naveen Kumar and District Red Cross Society Secretary OP Bhatia, who voiced their support for the initiative and stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness and responsible transportation practices.
