Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor appreciated the efforts of the MC in felicitating sanitation workers who play a crucial role in keeping Palampur clean and healthy. Their dedication and hard work were acknowledged and they were presented jackets.

While addressing the sanitation workers, Municipal Commissioner Ashish Sharma emphasised the importance of community participation in waste management and sanitation. He urged residents to adopt sustainable practices and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.

He said the Palampur MC had organised several awareness programmes on waste management in the past. The corporation has also taken up various infrastructure development projects to improve sanitation and waste management in the city.

Sharma said Palampur attracts a significant number of tourists every year, but the rapid growth in tourism has brought about challenges, particularly in waste management. Unsustainable waste management practices in these hill stations have posed threats to the fragile mountain ecosystems and the overall environmental sustainability of these regions.

“To address these issues, the MC has collaborated with Hilldaari, which aims to develop inclusive, resilient and sustainable waste management models in the hills of north India. The NGO extended due cooperation to the Palampur MC. In the past one year, it has made remarkable progress in transforming waste management through various initiatives.

“The MC is committed to making Palampur a clean and green city. The NGO and the MC are also working towards making Palampur a garbage-free city by the end of 2025. With the help of Hilldari, the MC is collecting garbage from door to door daily and over 100 workers are engaged in this task,” said Abhinav Shukla, head of Hilldaari.
