In a tragic incident highlighting the growing obsession with social media fame, a 22-year-old B Tech student from Mandi district lost his life while performing a dangerous motorcycle stunt for a reel. The deceased, identified as Aniket, son of Subhash Chand and a resident of Nagchala in the Balh area, died late last night around 1 am near the Malori tunnel on the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
According to the initial police investigation, Aniket was attempting a high-speed stunt when he lost control of his motorcycle and fell on the ground. The impact was so severe that it reportedly resulted in a broken neck, leading to his death. He was immediately rushed to Nerchowk Medical College by the police team that reached the spot after being informed of the accident. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
Aniket was known among his circle for regularly posting bike stunt videos on Instagram, where he had been building a following. Performing such stunts had become a routine for him, but this time, his pursuit of views and online recognition turned fatal.
The police have registered a case at the Tourist and Traffic Police Station in Nagchala and initiated an investigation. Sagar Chander Sharma, ASP, Mandi, said strict action has been taken against others involved in the reel-making. The fellow riders and the videographer filming the stunt have also been named in the FIR. The police have seized mobile phones and camera footage from the scene for forensic examination.
