Baddi girl is Himachal topper in JEE main

Gets 99.83 percentile; says she studied for 8-10 hours everyday

Vanshita Thakur, a resident of Suncity, Baddi, topped the joint entrance examination (JEE) main for engineering in the state by securing 99.83 percentile, the results of which were declared today.

She was a student of Nav Jyoti Century School, Baddi, and started the JEE preparations when she was in Class XI. She also took coaching from a private institute at Chandigarh. “I have been devoting eight to 10 hours on studying every day and I want to clear the JEE (Advanced) now to seek admission to the top engineering institutes like the IITs,” said Vanshita while talking to The Tribune.

While pursuing engineering is her main focus, she also takes keen interest in music and dance. She is the eldest of the three siblings and her success will inspire them.

Vanshita says that she drew inspiration from her father Rakesh Thakur, who is posted as superintending engineer, HP State Electricity Board Limited, at Solan. Her mother Arti Thakur is a teacher. She had secured 95.4 per cent marks in the Class XII exams declared recently.

Elated at her daughter’s achievement, Rakesh Thakur said that her single-minded focus and dedication helped her achieve success.
