Baddi SP Ilma Afroz has once again been granted leave extension by a week, said a senior police officer here today.
Initially, Ilma, who has been on leave for over a month, was granted 15-day earned leave from November 7. On the completion of her leave, she was granted leave extension for a week till November 28. Similarly, on November 29, her leave was again extended by a week and later on December 5, she was granted leave extension again. Now, another extension had been granted to her.
Ilma was said to be at loggerheads with a sitting MLA, a claim that the Police Department had denied. The department had clarified that Ilma had gone to her hometown Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh to attend her ailing mother.
The department had temporarily deployed Vinod Kumar, a 2007-batch HP Police Service officer and Commandant of 8th Battalion, Home Guards in Chamba district, to oversee police operations in Baddi until Ilma returns and resumes duty.
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur had raised questions over the state government allegedly sending the SP on leave. He had asked the government to disclose the reason why she was granted leave all of a sudden.
Thakur had said, “People are saying that she was doing a commendable job and was taking action against the mining mafia. Therefore, the state government should clarify why and under whose influence she was sent on leave.”
