Continuous rains, flashfloods and landslides in the past two months have caused extensive damage to power infrastructure under the Thalout Electrical Division of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) in Mandi district.

As a result, electricity supply across the region has got disrupted. Jitender Bisht, Senior Executive Engineer of the HPSEBL, said 33kV Bajoura–Thalout and 33kV Pandoh–Thalout transmission lines, which served as the main power supply routes for the region, had been damaged at multiple points.

The disruption has led to a complete power outage in the areas falling under the Thalout Electrical Division. This includes Thalout, Banjar, Jibhi, Bahu, Larji, Sainj, Balichowki and surrounding areas.

“Despite challenging weather and terrain, our teams are working round the clock to repair and restore the supply,” said Bisht.

“The restoration of the 33kV Bajoura–Thalout line has been given top priority, with a dedicated team of around 50 to 60 personnel deployed at multiple points along the damaged stretch,” he said.

The repair work is expected to take three days, depending on weather conditions.

Simultaneously, distribution networks in affected in Banjar, Balichowki, Aut and Sainj are also being repaired on a war footing.

Calling the situation a “major operational challenge”, Bisht said landslides and uprooted trees not only damage infrastructure but also delay repair works. Despite this, the HPSEBL teams had been working tirelessly, he said.

He appealed to the public to cooperate with the department. “We understand the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses, but request all affected consumers to bear with us. Our staff is fully committed and making every possible effort to restore electricity at the earliest,” said Bisht, adding that people must stay away from damaged electric poles and wires.
