In a major step towards tuberculosis (TB) eradication, the Banikhet-based Yog Manav Vikas Trust (YMVT) has announced the adoption of 50 TB patients in Chamba district under the Nikshay Mitra initiative, a key component of the Prime Minister TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.

The announcement was made by Trust chairperson Kiran Dodeja ahead of World TB Day on March 24. She stated that the decision was inspired by Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repaswal, who recently adopted five TB patients, followed by Chamba Additional District Magistrate (ADM), who adopted two more. Motivated by these efforts, YMVT has pledged to support 50 TB patients through their full course of treatment, covering different blocks of the district.

The adoption period will last until the end of the current financial year. However, if required by the Himachal Pradesh Health Department, the Trust has expressed its willingness to adopt another batch of 50 TB patients in the next fiscal year.

YMVT has been actively engaged in community welfare programmes for over 12 years, focusing on education, vocational training, rehabilitation of underprivileged children, rural development, women empowerment, and social uplift in the aspirational district of Chamba. The Trust also organises health and wellness camps, contributing to public health awareness and community well-being.

“Our commitment to community health remains strong,” said Dodeja. “Beyond TB support, we will continue to provide financial assistance, organize Ayurvedic therapy camps, and promote wellness practices in the future.”

This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening community participation in the fight against tuberculosis, ensuring better healthcare access and support for vulnerable patients in Chamba.
