Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today presided over the Border Area Youth Exchange Programme held at the Raj Bhavan today in which youth from Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand participated
The Governor commended the efforts of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) for its consistent endeavours in empowering the youth and fostering the spirit of national unity.
“The youth are the backbone of any nation and it is their energy, ideas and enthusiasm that helps shapes the future of the country,” he remarked.
He said the programme is an excellent platform that not only brings the youth of border areas together but also bridges the cultural gaps and fosters a sense of unity and national pride. “Youth from Himachal, also known as Devbhoomi exhibited exceptional valour and bravery while serving in the armed forces and protecting the nation against enemies,” he said.
The Governor urged the youth to become ambassadors of peace, harmony and progress and called upon the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan to continue their commendable efforts in empowering youth and instilling a sense of patriotism among them. He said such initiatives provide people an opportunity to acknowledge the sacrifices of soldiers besides understanding their challenges and expressing solidarity with them.
He suggested that campaigns aimed at combating substance abuse should be intensified. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme, the Governor stressed the need for a drug-free nation. He urged the youth to actively participate in raising awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and called for organising programmes that effectively address this growing menace.
Director, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Himachal Pradesh Ira Prabhat, welcomed the Governor and provided an overview of the programme. District Youth Officer, Nehru Yuva Kendra Shimla Manisha Sharma was also present on the occasion.
