The construction of much-anticipated Bhanupalli-Leh railway track is steadily advancing with significant progress being made in Mandi district. The latest phase of the project saw the installation of several ‘burjis’— temporary support structures — near Takoli, an important milestone in the construction process.

‘Burjis’ serve a vital role in stabilising the railway trackbed, particularly as the railway route navigates the challenging terrain of the Himalayas. These structures are essential in maintaining the alignment and integrity of the track, especially in areas with steep gradients and difficult topography. The installation of these ‘burjis’ is part of the broader effort to ensure the railway can handle the region''s rugged landscape while providing a safe and reliable transport route, when completed.

The work near Takoli is just the latest in a series of ongoing efforts to lay the groundwork for the Bhanupalli-Leh railway line.

According to official sources, this process will continue with further ‘burji’ installations expected along the route as construction moves forward. The railway is expected to be a transformative infrastructure project for the region, significantly improving connectivity between Bhanupalli and Leh, and boosting both transportation and economic opportunities.

The Bhanupalli-Leh railway line is being hailed as one of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in the country, given the challenging Himalayan terrain it will cross through. The entire project involves constructing several bridges, tunnels and embankments, with the ‘burji’ installation playing a key role in securing these structures.

The project’s completion will not only improve transport links but will also serve as a catalyst for regional development, connecting remote areas and fostering economic growth.

According to Sub Divisional Magistrate, Mandi, Sadar Om Kant Thakur, preliminary survey is being done for this strategically important railway line.

Once completed, the Bhanupalli-Leh railway track will provide a vital transportation link for both passengers and goods, benefiting residents, businesses and tourists alike. It is expected to be a game-changer for the region’s connectivity, opening new avenues for economic development and improving the quality of life for those living in the surrounding areas.
