Bharti Sharma and Devansh Rana become Himachal badminton champions

Bharti Sharma of Kangra and Devansh Rana of Hamirpur became state-level badminton champions in the Under-17 category, while Shreya and Kartik emerged victorious in the Under-15 category in the women’s and men’s categories, respectively, in the state-level junior and sub-junior badminton championship, which concluded here yesterday.

Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur felicitated the winners of the championship.

The SP said sports helped maintain good health, and inculcated discipline among players. Everyone should participate in sports as it helped build a happy and healthy society, steering people away from many social evils, he added.

He said sports played a vital role in the overall personality development of an individual.

Badminton Association district president Sushil Soni said 148 players participated in the championship, which spanned over three days at the centre of the Sports Authority of India here.

In the U-17 women’s singles, Pragya Verma of Shimla was the runners-up. In doubles, Pragya and Yashika of Shimla emerged victorious, while Amrita and Bharti of Kangra were the runners-up.

In the U-15 women’s singles, Sargam of Hamirpur was the runners-up, while in doubles, Sargam and Shreya of Hamirpur defeated Anoshe and Palak of Kangra to clinch victory.

In the U-17 men’s singles, Shivansh Rana from Hamirpur was the runners-up, while in doubles, Devesh and Shivansh of Hamirpur emerged winners and Anshuman and Ritul of Kangra were the runners-up.

In the U-15 men’s singles, Tanmay of Mandi was the runners-up. In doubles, Arnav and Atal of Kangra emerged winners, while Gyan and Kartik of Mandi were the runners-up.

In the U-17 mix-doubles, Devansh and Pragya defeated Shivansh and Yashika, while in the U-15 category, Kartik and Sargam defeated Ishan and Anvi in the finals.
