Bhuri Singh Museum showcases British Indian Army photos

Special exhibition set up on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day

A special exhibition featuring photographs of the British Indian Army has been set up at Bhuri Singh Museum in Chamba on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day. The exhibition showcases images of all regiments that have been part of the British Indian Army to date, with around 60 photographs being on display.

The exhibition was inaugurated on Thursday with a special event at the museum’s exhibition hall. Chamba Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Repswal attended the event as the chief guest. The programme began at 10 am, during which the DC formally inaugurated the exhibition, observed the displayed photographs and gathered essential information on them.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the initiative would help visitors gain detailed insights into the history of the British Indian Army. He also commended the efforts of museum curator Surendra Thakur for setting up the exhibition and highlighted the museum’s role in showcasing different aspects of India’s historical heritage.

The DC encouraged people to visit Bhuri Singh Museum to explore their heritage and learn about history through such exhibitions.

During the event, Mahatma Gandhi was also remembered. Around two years ago, a Chamba Rumal (traditional embroidered handkerchief) was sent to South Africa, received by Mahatma Gandhi’s family member, Ela Gandhi. The Chamba Rumal, prepared by the Saraswati self-help group, was sent to Gandhi’s former residence in Durban, South Africa, with significant contributions from Not On Map and Seva Himalaya organisations.

The event was attended by retired Captain Anumeha Parashar, Deputy Director of the District Soldiers’ Welfare Board; Rajeev Mishra, District Tourism Officer; Tukesh Sharma, District Language Officer; OP Thakur, District Development Officer; representatives of Not On Map, including Manuj Sharma, Rajesh, Magandeep, Jyoti, and Renu. Additionally; young artists of the Chamba Rumal painting and Army representative Inderjit Singh.
