Bid to run over cops on naka duty, one arrested
Nurpur police have arrested Surjeet Kumar of Sadwan village late last night on the charge of attempt to murder. The accused had fled with his Mahindra SUV car after hitting two police personnel who were on naka duty at Simbli under Sadwan police chowki on Sunday evening.
As per police information, the accused allegedly tried twice to run over the police chowki in charge Bhajan Singh and constable Rahul who were standing at the police naka. After hitting them he fled in his vehicle.
The injured personnel, who sustained grievous injuries, were rushed to Tanda Medical College. Later, Bhajan Singh was shifted to a private hospital at Pathankot. The duo is under treatment for their grievous injuries. The massive hunt to nab the fled accused was launched by the police after the incident.
DSP Nurpur Vishal Verma said that on the basis of the complaint made by ASI Bhajan Singh, a case of attempt to murder was registered under section 109 of the BNS in Nurpur police station. He said that the accused had a grudge with Sadwan chowki police after checking of his shop a few days ago. He said the police had conducted medical examination of the accused and found him in an inebriated condition. The vehicle used in run over the police personnel has been impounded by the police.
