Big surge of 109 cases, Himachal tally rises to 1,834

The Covid-19 surge continued with emergence of 109 new cases today, taking the state’s tally to 1,834, including 10 deaths.

The highest number of 43 cases were reported in Solan, 42 in Sirmaur, 11 in Kangra, seven in Mandi, two each in Chamba and Hamirpur and one each in Bilaspur and Shimla.

3 ARMY MEN TEST +VE

  • Twelve persons, including three Army men, tested positive for Covid-19 in Kangra, taking the total number of cases in the district to 371, including 64 active cases
  • Three Army men with travel history of Bidar in Karnataka, Srinagar and Leh were found infected
  • Besides, a 38-year-old paramilitary jawan with travel history of Chandigarh also tested positive

43 cases in Solan

As many as 43 persons, including 15 children, tested positive for Covid in Solan on Wednesday, raising the number of cases in the district to 434.

Solan also became the first district in the state to cross the 400 mark — it also has the highest number of 285 active cases.

Medical Officer Health, Solan, Dr NK Gupta, said that among the 43 cases, 41 were from Nalagarh subdivision, including 25 direct contacts of Covid-positive persons from Wrigley India Pvt Ltd. Seven persons were inter-state travellers and six others were in institutional quarantine. Besides, two persons, who had influenza-like symptoms, and a woman with an antenatal case were randomly sampled and were found infected.

Meanwhile, the District Magistrate notified four new containment zones in Nalagarh subdivision today. The Basanti Bagh area in Baddi, Sabzi Mandi and the house of a patient at Haripur Sandholi village, Housing Board Colony in Phase III and USV industrial units at Baddi were declared containment zones where the movement of people had been restricted.

28 catch virus in Sirmaur

With the highest single-day spike of 28 cases, the tally of Covid cases in Sirmaur touched 172.

As many as 15 cases, including 14 from Govindgarh Mohalla in Nahan, were detected late last evening. They were shifted to Covid Care Centre (CCC) at Sangrah. A new CCC facility has been set up at a college in Sangrah after the locals opposed the facility at girls’ hostel.

DC RK Pruthi said 20 new cases, including two children, were detected from Govindgarh mohalla. They comprised eight men and 12 women. As many as 107 cases had been detected from the area.

A request had been made to the contacts of positive patients to come forward and get them tested.

Besides, two men also tested positive from Dadahu. Five workers of Valley Iron Steel unit at Paonta Sahib also tested positive.

Three of family infected

Six persons, including three of a family, were found Covid-19 positive in Mandi district.

A man, his wife and their child, all residents of Bheuli in Mandi town, were found infected. Besides, two persons from the Balh area, and one person from the Seraj Assembly segment tested positive. “The patients hailing from the Balh area have the travel history of Delhi, while the patient from Seraj has the travel history of Srinagar,” said Dr Devender Sharma, Chief Medical officer, Mandi.
