Bill aims for transparency in waqf boards: BJP
The objective of the Waqf Amendment Bill, 2024, is to increase accountability and transparency in the functioning of waqf boards, said BJP state general secretary Bihari Lal Sharma today.
Sharma, in a statement issued here, said that by introducing several key amendments, the Bill aimed to address concerns about the unlimited powers of these boards, which had led to disputes and misuse of waqf properties. “One of the most important aspects of the Bill is the introduction of mandatory verification processes for all property claims made by waqf boards,” he added.
Sharma said that the amendment would ensure that there was a transparent process to verify the authenticity of such claims, preventing any property from being declared waqf without proper investigation. “The verification requirement for waqf boards will also help in increasing public trust in the system and reduce the chances of corruption,” he added.
