The BJP dominated the elections to the board of directors of Kangra Central Cooperative (KCC) Bank held in 16 zones in the state today.
Chairman of the bank Rajiv Bharadwaj claimed that the BJP had won 11 out of 16 zones. The party now had 14 members in the board of directors of the bank, including 11 elected and 3 nominated members. The priority of the board would be to provide credit to small investors. Bharadwaj was a nominated member of the board.
Those elected to the board include Champa Chhering from the Keylong zone; Prem Lata Thakur from the Kullu zone; Hiteshwar Singh, Banjar zone; Kulbinder Rana the Baijnath zone; Ranjeet Singh Rana, Bhawarna zone; Chander Bhushan Nag, Nagrota Bagwan zone; Rajeev Kumar Mahajan, Rait zone; Karnail Singh, Nurpur zone; Karan Singh, Indora zone; Virender Singh, Dehra zone; Lekh Raj, Pragpur zone; Desh Raj Thakur, Hamirpur zone; Atam Prakash, Nadaun zone; Pritam Singh, Amb zone; Pawan Kumar, Gagret zone; and Balwant Singh from the Una zone.
Congress leaders blamed the inactivity in the party for the victory of the BJP. A senior leader said in most of the zones, the party failed to put up candidates.
Many candidates were forced to withdraw from the contest by the ruling party. The party nominees did not contest as they did not get support from the senior leadership.
