Wife of BJP ex-MLA from Theog joins Congress
Delhi/Shimla, July 22
Indu Verma, wife of three-time BJP legislator from Theog in Shimla district Rakesh Verma, today joined the Congress at the AICC headquarters in Delhi.
Indu lost her husband on May 20, 2020. She had remained a Zila Parishad member twice, besides the district Shimla BJP Mahila Morcha president.
Earlier, former BJP president Khimi Ram had joined the Congress. Indu’s joining the BJP will intensify tussle for the Congress ticket from Theog, home constituency of former Congress president Kuldeep Rathore, who is also hoping to contest the Assembly poll from there.
AICC in-charge for Himachal Rajeev Shukla said Indu Verma’s joining the Congress would strengthen it.
He added that Rakesh Verma was a popular leader and his family has a considerable clout not only in the Theog Assembly segment but also in the adjoining constituencies of Chopal and Kasumpti.
Rakesh Verma had won his first election in 1993 on the BJP ticket from Theog constituency, defeating Vidya Stokes.
