Shimla, June 9
Leader of the Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri today said the BJP had hoodwinked the people of the state on the issue of construction of 70 national highways for which it must apologize to the people.
Govt efforts failed
The efforts of the state government to get approval for 25 to 30 highway projects have not materialised. These NHs do not qualify necessary parameters as their length not volume of traffic is evaluated. — Mukesh Agnihotri, leader of opposition
In a statement issued here today, Agnihotri said Nitin Gadkari, who had made this announcement in Himachal shortly before elections, has himself gone on records stating that the 70 NHs to be constructed at a cost of Rs 65,000 crore had not got the approval from the Prime Minister.
“The BJP used this announcement by Gadkari to the hilt during the Lok Sabha as well as the Assembly elections to sway votes in its favour,” said Agnihotri. “These announcements were nothing short of a political fraud with the people of the state as little headway had been made till date”, he remarked.
He added that Gadkari has also said that the companies executing the Shimla-Kalka and Kiratpur-Manali projects had been declared bankrupt. So the possibility of these being completed was remote.
