Issues like deletion of names of residents who have been residing in concerned wards for the last five years and errors in finalising delimitation of wards have been raised by the Opposition party.

Party’s Solan city president Shailendra Gupta, in a representation to the Chief Election Commission, has flagged several issues. He alleged that the limits and boundaries of some of the old wards have not been marked properly and some portion of the wards have been included in more than one ward. This was preposterous and smacked of deliberate mischief to benefit chosen few.

He also alleged that some portion of old wards do not figure in any ward which was surprising while blaming the officials for submitting factually incorrect reports and asked at whose insistence this was done.

Since the voter lists have not been made public, it created confusion about the voter names being included in the lists or not. Gupta demanded that the revised voter list should be made public at the earliest so that general public could check and verify their respective names in the lists of their wards

While raising a finger at the officials of the civic body for failing to ensure transparency in the process, he demanded an independent, fair and a thorough enquiry of the whole process supervised by a senior official of the Election Commission.

The Opposition also demanded strict departmental and requisite legal action against the officials who are found deliberately furnishing false and fabricated reports.

With much being at stake for both the BJP and the Congress in the civic body, both parties were keeping a close watch on the happenings in the run up to the civic body polls to ensure that no one got any undue advantage. The Congress held the coveted position of the Mayor while the BJP occupied the deputy mayor’s position in the civic body.
