National BJP president JP Nadda, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today congratulated LK Advani on being awarded Bharat Ratna. They also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for conferring the highest honour on Advani.

Nadda said, “Advani is a statesman who has selflessly worked for the development of the country throughout his life. Advani’s contributions to the country and the BJP are unparalleled.”

Anurag said, “It was Advani, who against all adversities, fought for the construction of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled his dream of the construction of the Ram Temple, the foundation for which Advani had laid.”

Jai Ram Thakur also congratulated Advani on being awarded Bharat Ratna.

In Hamirpur, former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said today that the Bharat Ratna award was a great honour for former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani, one of founding leaders of the BJP. He added that Advani was the frontrunner of the Ram Janmbhoomi struggle in 1990s and he had played an important role in the government led by Prime Minister Morarji Desai in 1977.

Dhumal said that Advani had served as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister with the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He added that Advani never compromised with his ideology of nationalism.

He said, “Advani joined the freedom struggle in 1942 at the age of 14 years and later joined the RSS. He became a member of the Rajya Sabha in 1970 and remained in the Upper House till 1999. He remained a Rajya Sabha member four times and a Lok Sabha member five times. The Bharat Ratna is a great reward for Advani’s contribution to the nation.”
