The Opposition BJP on Thursday staged a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha to save Himachal from alleged mafia raj, rampant corruption and deteriorating law and order situation under the Congress regime in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said: "Himachal is facing a crisis on every front. Be it development, mafia raj, corruption and deteriorating law and order. Never before have we heard of contract killings in a Devbhoomi Himachal as shooters attacked a former Congress legislator on Holi.

He added that all across the state there has been a spurt in crime.

The former chief minister hit out at the Congress regime for accusing Opposition of politicising the demise of chief engineer Vimal Negi.

“If the state government has nothing to fear and the family wants CBI inquiry, then what is preventing you from handing the case to CBI,” said Thakur.

He alleged that there were irregularities in setting up of power projects in Una and other places in the state.

He said the coffers of the government were empty and development had come to a standstill as not more than Rs 10,000 is being released from the treasury.

The Congress regime has failed to fulfill the guarantees made to the people, including creating one lakh jobs annually and providing 300 units of free power, he added. He said the only development taking place in the state was from the central funds under various schemes being provided by the Centre .

State BJP president Rajeev Bindal said all development had come to a standstill and the state was under a debt trap over Rs one lakh crore.

“Under Vyavastha Parivartan only mafia raj flourishing. This rally is the outcry against mafia raj in Himachal as Devbhoomi is turning into chitta state, “ said Bindal.

He said law and order situation is bad with spurt in murders and crime against women.

“If a former MLA is not safe then one can imagine the plight of the common man," said Bindal.

He said under the Congress regime, liquor, mining, supari, drug, transfer, scrap and forest mafia is flourishing.

“Rather than providing jobs to one lakh youth in one year services of many had been discontinued. Subsidy on power and water had been withdrawn and guarantees made by the Congress had not been fulfilled,” said Bindal.

State BJP in-charge and MLA from Mathura Srikant Sharma said people were up in arms against the corrupt Congress government.

He said people who have come to attend the rally must take back the message about the corrupt practices of Sukhu regime, which must be thrown out of power.

Taking a jibe at the unfulfilled promises and guarantees, Sharma said the government must have provided five lakh jobs, bought all the cow dung and must be providing 300 units free power.

Sharma hit out at the Congress regime for sheltering the drug mafia with youth being in the grip of chitta mafia.

“I assure you that when BJP comes to power, drug mafia will be wiped off,” he said.

He said chargesheet will be prepared at every booth-level against the wrongdoings of the Sikhu regime.

He said this rally will boost the morale of honest and committed officers who are demoralised following the demise of chief engineer Vimal Negi.

“What was the fault or Vimal Negi. If there is any morality left in this government then they should handover the case of his death to CBI,” he said.

“The chief minster and ministers are all deep neck in corruption,” he alleged. He said BJP on being voted to power will launch a crackdown against all mafias flourishing under Congress rule.

He urged people to make Himachal Congress "mukt" and vote BJP to power.
