BJP protests in Nahan over delay in bridge construction
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged a protest rally in Nahan, voicing discontent over the prolonged delay in completing a crucial bridge in Vikrambagh Panchayat’s Manderwa village. Led by BJP state president and former MLA Dr Rajeev Bindal, the demonstration saw the participation of a large number of BJP workers, local residents and development supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Bindal expressed the frustration of the villagers, stating that despite the BJP government’s approval of an Rs 18-crore bridge project, the work remains stalled with only 10 per cent of the construction left unfinished. He alleged that under the current Congress-led government, no progress has been made on the remaining portion, leading to growing public outrage. The protest culminated in a demonstration at the office of the Superintending Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) in Nahan.
Dr Bindal emphasised that during the BJP’s tenure, extensive efforts were made to approve and construct the bridge over Markanda River, aiming to provide villagers with a vital transportation link. By 2022, nearly 90 per cent of the project had been completed. However, even after two and a half years under the Congress government, the final phase remains untouched, which he described as a clear failure of governance.
The BJP has demanded that the PWD complete the remaining work before the monsoon season, ensuring the bridge becomes operational for the villagers. Dr Bindal warned that if construction does not resume immediately, the BJP will intensify its protests against the Congress government.
Criticising the ruling party, Dr Bindal accused the Congress-led state government of being anti-development and indifferent to the challenges faced by the people. He further claimed that ever since Congress took power, development activities across Himachal Pradesh, particularly in Sirmaur and Nahan, have come to a standstill.
