The BJP Manali Mandal and members of the Dev Samaj today staged a protest against cattle smuggling at the Mall road and submitted a memorandum to the Governor through Manali SDM Raman Sharma. The members took out a rally from Rambagh Chowk to Model Town and staged a protest against the state government for not taking appropriate action against cow smuggling in the region.

BJP state vice-president and former minister Govind Singh Thakur said last month, a truck full of cattle was seized by locals near Rahni Nala on the Rohtang Pass road and similar cases had come to the fore in Pandoh and Darcha. He said, “Such incidents are worrisome and immediate action should be taken to curb these in Dev Bhoomi.”

Banjar MLA Surender Shourie and Danvender Singh, Kardar (caretaker) of chief deity Lord Raghunath, addressed the protesters. BJP Manali Mandal president Thakur Dass said a request has been made to the Governor to initiate strict action in this matter at the earliest. BJP Dev Samaj Prakoshth president Makardhwaj Sharma said atrocities against cows would not be tolerated and the government should take this matter seriously or else they would intensify their protests.

Meanwhile, shepherds Muhammad and Yusuf, along with Saurabh, Aditya and Sunder Thakur, who had caught the cattle truck, were honoured.
