Opposition BJP on Wednesday announced a large-scale protest march in Dharamsala on December 4, coinciding with the Congress government’s completion of three years in office. The rally will be held during the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha and is aimed at highlighting what the BJP describes as the government’s “failed guarantees” and “anti-people decisions”.

Addressing reporters in Shimla, state BJP president Rajeev Bindal said party workers from across Himachal Pradesh would converge in Dharamsala for the demonstration. He alleged that the Congress regime had pushed the state towards financial crisis while allowing “mafia raj” and administrative deterioration to flourish. “Is the Congress celebrating financial bankruptcy, closure of institutions, worsening law and order or its unfulfilled guarantees?” he asked.

Bindal accused the government of reneging on its key poll promises, including one lakh jobs, Rs 1,500 monthly assistance to 28 lakh women, 300 units of free electricity, Rs 100-per-litre milk procurement and cow dung purchase at Rs 2 per kg. “The Congress came to power on the strength of these guarantees, none of which have been delivered,” he said.

A committee led by Sulah MLA Vipin Singh Parmar will supervise preparations for the rally. BJP state vice-presidents Bihari Lal Sharma, Pawan Kajal, Trilok Kapoor and Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma will serve as co-incharges.

Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur also criticised the government for planning to mark three years in office. He said crucial welfare schemes such as Him Care, Sahara, Swavalamban, Grihini Suvidha, Shagun and Jan Manch had been discontinued, affecting thousands of families. “We will expose the anti-people policies both inside and outside the Assembly,” he said.
