Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Kuldeep Rathore today accused the BJP of trying to sabotage the farmers agitation and all offer for talks a mere formality.

Addressing a press conference here today Rathore said it was under a pre-planned strategy that the Modi regime was trying to stretch the agitation so that the farmers tire out. “The BJP is trying to defame the farmers by infiltrating its own elements into the agitation and get the farmers a bad name,” he alleged.

The state Congress chief lamented that despite the farmers agitation entering the 17th day, the BJP Government was merely rendering lip service to the farmers and not at all serious about addressing their grievances. “Anybody who raises an issue or has a difference of opinion with the BJP regime is labeled as anti-national,” he said.

Rathore said the entire nation solidly stood behind the farmers whose issues must be addressed. “Contrary to the expectations of the Modi regime, the farmers agitation will continue as their problems are justified which is evident from the widespread support they are receiving from all over the country,” he said.

He also took exception to adverse remarks made by former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar about farmers. “People still have not forgotten when the police had used lathis to silence apple growers agitation in Kotgarh when Shanta ji was the CM. So such remarks coming from him are not a surprise at all,” he said.
