Blaze causes heavy loss at Baddi factory

A major fire broke out at Winner Nippon Leatherette Private Limited in Kailash Vihar, Baddi, late last night, causing losses worth lakhs. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Santosh Sharma, Commandant, Home Guards, Solan, said the fire department received a call at 10:24 pm. A team of 11 personnel and three fire engines rushed to the spot and launched intense firefighting operations.

The company manufactures technical textiles such as polyurethane and PVC — both highly inflammable materials — which fuelled the blaze. The fire, believed to have started in the manufacturing area, spread rapidly but was brought under control by 11:58 pm.

While a significant portion of the property was saved, the incident resulted in heavy damage to the production section. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined and an investigation is underway.
