Mandi, August 17

The Manali-Leh National highway, which was temporarily closed for a few hours due to a landslide, was restored to traffic this morning. The road was blocked in the early hours due to a landslide at Dhundhi, near the Atal Tunnel in Manali, disrupting traffic movement. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) mobilised its workforce and machinery to clear the debris from the highway.

According to DSP, Manali, KD Sharma, the landslide occurred at Dhundhi in the wee hours, blocking traffic that was then diverted through the Rohtang Pass so that those travelling from Manali towards Leh could continue their journey with minimal delay.

“The BRO acted swiftly to open the highway. Its efforts focused on removing the debris and securing the road to ensure the safety of all travellers. By around 7 am today, the highway was fully restored to traffic, allowing vehicles to resume their normal movement,” Sharma said.

He added, “This swift response from the BRO not only mitigated the impact of the landslide but also ensured minimum traffic disruption. The restoration of this highway is particularly significant as it connects Manali to Leh, supporting both local travel and the transportation of goods and services.”
