Marking the golden jubilee of the legendary Indian film Sholay, Gold Cinema Dharamsala hosted a special screening of a recreated version of its iconic song “Mehbooba-Mehbooba”, filmed against the breathtaking Himalayan backdrop.
Despite persistent rain, art and culture enthusiasts from across Kangra district flocked to the PVR theatre, eager to witness the unique fusion of Bollywood nostalgia and local heritage.
The event was inaugurated by Hemraj Bairwa, Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, and Dolma Tsering, Deputy Speaker of the Central Tibetan Administration, in the presence of senior officials and representatives from various NGOs. Their participation underscored the cultural and artistic significance of the occasion.
The music video is the brainchild of Dharamsala-based filmmaker duo Raman Siddhartha and Manju Narayan. Featuring performers Kalsang Dolma and Tenzin Nyima from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), the recreation breathes fresh life into the classic with traditional Tibetan instruments, intricate choreography, and Buddhist-inspired visual motifs — seamlessly blending them with the song’s original infectious energy. “This is a tribute to the greatest blockbuster of the century, dedicated to all the legends who made it possible,” said Siddhartha, reflecting on the passion behind the project.
The screening was hailed as a cultural milestone, celebrating both the enduring magic of Sholay and the vibrant artistic traditions of the Tibetan community in Himachal Pradesh.
