Mandi: Botany club charts green vision for 2025-26

The Botany Department of Vallabh Government College, Mandi, held an induction programme on Thursday to welcome new students into the Vallabhian Botany Club for the academic session 2025-26.

On the occasion, new office bearers were elected and the vision for the year’s activities was outlined. The office bearers include: Sonakshi (general secretary); Dharuvi and Jashan (associate secretaries); Manasvi (secretary, events); Kanan, Piyush, Haritika and Jitender (associate secretaries, events); Aryan (secretary, wall management); and Suhani, Raghavi, Komal and Reechana (associate secretaries, wall management).

The club resolved to actively work on initiatives such as creating a green campus, promoting biodiversity conservation and adopting the principle of “waste to best” through innovative practices.

In her address, Dr Tara Devi Sen, Head of Department, highlighted that the club’s core aim is to nurture leadership, teamwork and innovation among students. She urged members not only to protect nature but also to lead by example in adopting sustainable practices.

Faculty members Dr Deepali Ashok, Dr Neeti Pathania, Dr Banita Saklani and Dr Madhvi Joshi also motivated the students with their words of encouragement, inspiring them to take up creative and impactful initiatives throughout the year.

The programme also acknowledged the contributions of Lab Assistants Guddi Devi and Praveen Kumar, along with Gardener Bhiku Devi, whose support remains integral to the department and club activities. The induction concluded on a positive note, instilling enthusiasm among students to contribute meaningfully towards environmental sustainability and campus development.
