The Kunihar police arrested a branch post master, Monu Kumar, a Hamirpur resident, on Tuesday evening from his native village for embezzling Rs 52,392 and official documents from Koti post office in Solan district.

SP Solan Gaurav Singh said that on August 29, Amit Kumar, Inspector, Postal Department, Subathu, lodged a report at the Kunihar police station that on June 22 Monu Kumar was transferred from the main post office Hamirpur to Koti as a branch post master.

On July 30, Assistant Branch Post Master Koti informed Amit that Monu had been missing from the office since July 27 along with cash of Rs 52,392, office equipment and key official documents. Amit tried to contact him on his mobile but it was switched off. After all efforts to trace him failed, a case was registered at Kunihar police station under Section 316 (5) Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita. On September 10, the accused Monu (29), a resident of Vikasnagar tehsil in Hamirpur district, was arrested by the Kunihar police. An official seal of the post office, a mobile phone and office order book were recovered from his possession. He was produced before a court today for seeking his remand. The previous criminal record of the accused is also being probed.
