Shimla: Governor Bandaru Dattatreya honoured nurses on International Nurses Day here on Tuesday. He said that efforts and dedication of nurses in the wake of Covid-19 was unprecedented. They were making a huge contribution to society – year 2020 is being celebrated as International Nurses Year. “We remember the sacrifice and dedication of Florence Nightingale and thank all corona warriors associated with the profession,” he said. Minister gives Rs7 lakh to needy families

Kangra: Industries Minister Bikram Singh Thakur on Tuesday gave Rs 7 lakh to 27 needy and deserving families at Jaswan Pragpur Lagh in Dada Siba. He said a financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh was provided from the voluntary fund and cheques for Rs 20,000 each were given to five families at Lag village for medical treatment. He added that Rs 1.5 lakh was given to Desraj in Swanata village of Lag panchayat for a heart bypass surgery, while Rs 10,000 each was given to two families for the marriage of their daughters. OC

Nepalese commits suicide in Mandi

Mandi: A Nepalese, Viku Shahi (35), allegedly committed suicide at Takoli village in Mandi district on Tuesday. He along with his family was living in a rented house in the village. The body was handed over to the bereaved family after a postmortem. An investigation is on. TNS

Young siblings donate Rs2,100 to CM fund

Bharmour: Sukhbir Singh, a Class III student of local DAV School, and his sister Himanshu, a Class VIII student, have on his (Sukhbir’s) birthday donated Rs 2,100 to the CM’s Relief Fund for providing assistance to corona warriors and the needy. The siblings had saved the money in their piggy bank. The donation cheque for Rs 2,100 was handed over to ADM PP Singh here on Tuesday. OC

Nurpur residents face erratic water supply

Nurpur: Residents of Nurpur are getting erratic piped water supply for the past 10 days. The Covid-19 restrictions have added to their woes. The IPH Department has not made any alternative arrangement for uninterrupted water supply in the town. KK Kapoor, XEN, IPH division, Nurpur, says damaged water pumping motors of the main Chakki scheme could not be repaired due to the non-availability of material at Pathankot (Punjab). Efforts were being made to get a motor repaired on Tuesday. Normal water supply would be ensured in two days. OC

Restart OPDs at Bhota hospital: ZP chief

Hamipur: Rakesh Thakur, chairperson of the zila parishad, has urged the Chief Minister through video-conference that OPDs at Radhaswami Charitable Hospital (RCH), Bhota, should be started. Over 1,000 patients visited the OPDs at the hospital daily before it was converted into a Covid facility. He said the Chief Minister had assured him of restarting the OPDs. He had also requested the CM to allow inter-district movement. OC

Snor residents seek access to Kullu sans passes

Mandi: Residents of the Snor valley in Mandi district have urged the Kullu administration to provide them access to the district without permits. Most of the people have their business establishments in Kullu district and they have to wait for days for e-passes. A delegation requested Kargil War Hero Brig Khushal Singh Thakur (retd), CMD of HP Ex-Servicemen Corporation, Hamirpur, to take up the matter with the administration. TNS

Kaul alleges shoddy medical check-up at border

Mandi: Former Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur has urged the state government to conduct rapid Covid-19 testing of every person. He said, “There is poor health checking of Himachalis coming from other states at the borders of the state. As a result, a person, who had returned from Delhi, was found Covid positive in the Jogindernagar Assembly segment. Another youth was found Covid positive in the Sarkaghat Assembly segment; he also had a travel history of Delhi. He later died at the IGMC, Shimla”. He said, “The government has failed to equip medical colleges with adequate health facilities. Mandi medical college lacks CT scan and MRI test facilities”. TNS
