BRO restores Sansari-Tandi road, reconnecting Lahaul valley & Pangi
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) successfully restored the Sansari-Killar-Thirot-Tandi (SKTT) road to traffic yesterday, marking a significant development for the residents of Lahaul and Pangi. This road, which links the Lahaul valley in the Lahaul and Spiti district with the remote Pangi region of Chamba district, had been blocked since February 27 due to heavy snowfall. The blockade left the Pangi region cut off from the Lahaul side for several weeks, severely impacting local connectivity.
After weeks of challenging snow clearance operations, the BRO’s efforts have paid off, reopening the route to travellers and connecting the two regions. This road not only holds geographical significance but also strategic importance, as it connects Himachal Pradesh with the neighbouring state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The reopening of the SKTT road will provide much-needed relief to both residents and travellers, easing the transportation of goods, essential services and visitors between Lahaul and Pangi. The road is vital for tourism, trade and regional connectivity, especially as the Lahaul Valley witnesses an influx of tourists during summer season.
The BRO’s successful restoration of this key route also highlights the organisation’s resilience in maintaining and managing remote infrastructure in the face of harsh climatic conditions. With the road now open, movement is expected to resume smoothly in the coming days, contributing to the economic and social revival of the region.
Local authorities and residents have expressed gratitude to the BRO for its persistent efforts in ensuring the timely reopening of the road, which will have long-term benefits for the region’s connectivity and development.
