BTech student found hanging in Una, police suspect suicide over exam failure

Victim’s family kept calling him for dinner but he did not respond

A 17-year-old student was found hanging at his aunt's house in Una town, with police suspecting that he committed suicide after failing in his examination. The victim, a resident of Kalyana village in Hamirpur district, was pursuing BTech from a private institute in Pandoga, the police said.

The incident occurred on Friday night in Ward No. 10 of Baihali Mohalla, when the family members, including the victim’s parents, were having dinner, the police said.

As per information, the victim’s family kept calling him for dinner but he did not respond and when they went to his room, the victim was hanging with a scarf.

Una Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Singh said no suicide note was from the spot. The scarf which was used to commit suicide has been seized and further investigation in the matter was underway, the SP said. The victim’s father is a shopkeeper and mother is a housewife, he added.
