Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Pathania has said that the Budget session ended with a work productivity of 93.3 per cent. He added that the proceedings of the House lasted for 56 hours and one minute.

The ruling party got 29 hours and 23 minutes, including the time for the Budget speech of the Chief Minister, while the Opposition got 25 hours and 48 minutes. The Independent MLAs were given 26 minutes.

Members asked 917 questions

Pathania said 12 meetings were held during the session that started on February 14 with the Governor’s address, which was discussed on February 15 and 16. On February 17, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presented the Budget estimates for 2024-2025, which were discussed for four days from February 19 to 22. The Budget was passed by guillotine.

The Speaker said that the members asked 917 questions during the session — 626 starred questions (527 online, 99 offline) and 291 un-starred questions (240 online, 51 offline). Besides, a discussion on a topic was held under Rule 62 while discussions on three topics were held under Rule 101.

He expressed gratitude to Leader of the House and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar and the members of the Chairman’s table, who helped him in conducting the session.
