In a humanitarian gesture, the Buruwa gram panchayat and Hind Yuvak Mandal organised a langar for 200 truck drivers and conductors stranded at Bahang and Vashisht due to the closure of the Manali–Leh National Highway. The highway has remained blocked since August 26.
Volunteers from the local community, including youth and women, prepared and distributed nourishing meals and daily essentials, demonstrating the power of collective action.
Buruwa Panchayat president Chura Mani Thakur commended the collaborative spirit and acknowledged the district administration’s role in the relief efforts. “The administration has extended all possible assistance to the stranded. This joint effort shows how the community and authorities can work hand-in-hand in times of crisis,” he said.
Residents have contributed generously to ensure no individual is left without food and basic necessities, a panchayat member said.
While the highway’s closure has inflicted significant losses on transporters and traders and disrupted supply chains to Lahaul and Ladakh, the compassionate response from the panchayat and the Hind Yuvak Mandal has brought much-needed relief. Their actions stand as a shining example of community service, resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity.
