A private bus plying from Hamirpur to Mandi district was partially buried under heavy debris following a sudden landslide near Chalar, around 5 km from Dharampur, on the Dharampur-Sarkaghat National Highway today.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was crossing the Chalar Nala area when a massive landslide triggered by recent heavy rain fell on it and partially buried it. The passengers got panicky but the bus driver and conductor urged everyone to remain calm.

The emergency exit of the bus was broke open and all passengers were evacuated. Fortunately, no passenger was injured. The timely response of the driver and the conductor helped prevent a tragedy.

Mandi SP Sakshi Verma said that more debris accumulated after the bus got stuck and was later removed with the help of heavy machinery. The local authorities urged commuters to exercise caution while travelling through landslide-prone areas during the monsoon season.
