Cabinet approves 6th finance panel in Himachal

The Cabinet today gave its consent to constitute the 6th state Finance Commission to review the financial position of panchayats and urban local bodies.

A Cabinet meeting was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. The commission will suggest measures needed to improve the financial position of panchayats and urban local bodies, imposition of taxes, duties, toll and fees and grants-in-aid to panchayats from the Consolidated Fund.

It decided to increase the honorarium of jal rakshaks/para fitters and para pump operators in the Jal Shakti Vibhag by Rs 300 per month. Now jal rakshaks will get Rs 3,300 per month whereas para fitters and para pump operators will get Rs 4,300.

The Cabinet gave its nod to amend the income criteria for the eligibility of 3/2 biswas land to homeless persons/families by enhancing it from existing Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh per annum, so that more people could get benefit of this scheme.

It accorded approval to the procurement, supply and distribution of schoolbags under the Atal School Vardi Yojana for over 2.56 lakh students on e-tender basis through Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation Ltd. for 2020-21.

It was also decided to create a state disaster mitigation fund. Under the fund, 20 per cent (Rs 90.80 crore) of the State Disaster Risk Management Fund will be used for mitigation in the financial year.

It gave its consent to establish a silkworm seed production centre at Thunag in Mandi district. It was also decided to open a new polytechnic institute in Sulah.
